Background

The Department of Agribusiness and Value Chain Management was established in 2020 to address the evolving challenges in agricultural production and business management. In a world facing evolving agricultural challenges, the Department of Agribusiness and Value Chain Management is at the forefront of innovation. We empower the next generation of leaders to drive sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. Through rigorous economic analysis, cutting-edge technology adoption, and strategic risk management, our graduates are equipped to transform agro-business industries.

The modern agricultural landscape demands more than just production; it requires sophisticated economic analysis, technological agility, and strategic risk mitigation. Recognizing this need, the Department of Agribusiness and Value Chain Management was established to equip professionals with the profound knowledge and analytical skills necessary to thrive in complex business environments. We are committed to developing experts who can effectively address the dynamic challenges facing agribusiness today. Thus, our program fosters a holistic understanding of the entire value chain, enabling our graduates to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and ensure the long-term sustainability of agricultural enterprises, ultimately contributing to a more prosperous and food-secure world.

The vision of the Agribusiness and Value Chain Management Department is:

  • Driving sustainable agricultural development and economic transformation.
  • The department aspires to produce highly skilled graduates who will shape the future of agribusiness, strengthen global food systems, and contribute to resilient and competitive agricultural markets.
  • By 2026, becoming the leading Agribusiness and Value Chain Management department among comprehensive universities in Ethiopia.

Mission

The mission of the Agribusiness and Value Chain Management Department is:

  • To equip students with the knowledge, skills, and innovative mindset necessary to enhance agricultural productivity, agribusiness sustainability, and market efficiency.
  • To provide high-quality education and research in agribusiness and value chain management, preparing graduates to excel in diverse agricultural careers and contribute to sustainable development.
  • Delivering community-centered services based on societal needs.

Objectives

  • Produce knowledgeable graduates in the field of Agribusiness and Value Chains who can involve in initiating, developing, managing, coordinating, and analyzing agribusiness firms;
  • Produce committed, motivated, socially accountable and qualified Agribusiness and Value Chain managers and analysts for undertaking rigorous and problem-solving research in their fields of expertise;
  • Produce graduates that will render community services; and
  • Produce graduates for offering consultancy and advisory services to agribusiness firms, value chain actors, government institutions, and NGOs
