Background

The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management is one of the departments under the College of Business and Economics at Salale University. It established in 2021; the department aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the tourism and hotel industry in Ethiopia. The program equips students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to excel in the hospitality and tourism sector. The department emphasizes practical learning through internships and field trips, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

Additionally, the program aims at giving students advanced knowledge in contemporary tourism and hotel management to become professional consultants, innovative entrepreneurs, government and public administration officials, tourism business and hotel managers, qualified employees, and academic researchers in the field of tourism and hotel Management.

Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hotel Management is a fully integrated four-year program promoted and tailor-made by Salale University under the College of Business and Economics with the intention of being recognized for its education and research. As such, this program combines theoretical education with practical training and industry experience to ensure that graduates fully agreed to the culture, service and competitive aspects of hospitality and tourism industry. Students will receive a thorough education in tourism and hotel management underpinned by integrated core business courses. Therefore, practical work experience is of utmost importance in getting prepared for an attractive career in tourism and Hotel management and in order to be successful in a competitive market.

Mission


  • To provide comprehensive training in Tourism and Hotel management, producing self-confident, innovative, and self-reliant graduates who are prepared for successful management careers in the hospitality and tourism industries by 2030.

Objectives

  • To produce competent and well qualified graduates to meet the growing demand of trained personnel in the sector.
  • To provide appropriate training that helps the graduates to acquire the skills required to serve within the context of international standards of service industry.
  • To produce specialists trained in tourism and hotel Management who will advocate the practice of professionalism and ethics in the field.
  • To produce graduates who will tackle problems pertinent to the industry.
  • To augment the nation’s capacity of conduct research on the diverse aspects of the industry and consultancy services so as to enhance the development of the sector.
  • To produce entrepreneurs who can create and manage small businesses within the tourism and Hotel industry.
  • To prepare future professionals to strategically manage and make sustainable and effective decisions in placements of high responsibility in tourism institutions and;
  • To provide future professionals with an integrated knowledge of the dynamics of tourism development, the principles of sustainable management, environmental issues, the role of cultural diversity and creativity for innovation and product development, the governance of tourism networks and the quality management of tourism and hotel and customer service.
