Background Information

The nursing program at Salale University started operating in 2015 G.C. as part of the university’s strategic development to expand academic and community health services. The Nursing Department, under the College of Health Sciences, was established to contribute to the national health system by producing competent, ethical, and skilled nursing professionals. Since its establishment, the department has offered both regular BSc in Nursing and post-basic nursing programs to address the growing demand for qualified healthcare providers in Ethiopia. In addition to its undergraduate offerings, the department provides postgraduate studies in two key specialty areas: MSc in Adult Health Nursing and MSc in Pediatric and Child Health Nursing.

Currently, the department comprises a total of 19 staff members. In the area of Adult Health Nursing, there are 2 Assistant Professors and 8 staff with MSc degrees. In Pediatric and Child Health Nursing, there are 2 Assistant Professors and 2 staff with MSc degrees, with an additional 2 staff member currently pursuing postgraduate studies in this specialty. The department also includes 1 technical assistant and 1 BSc nurse.

  • The mission of the Department of nursing is to produce a qualified and competent health professionals who respect the society through quality education, research and community services.

Objectives


  • Provide high-quality comprehensive nursing care ethically and professionally at the individual, family, and community levels and various healthcare settings
  • Manage common communicable and non-communicable diseases
  • Manage common MCH, RH, emergency, and mental health problems
  • Promote and prevent disease in individuals. family and community levels at all levels of healthcare settings
  • Lead and manage nursing care services
  • Engage in nursing education, research, and advocacy that will improve the nursing profession and services
