Background

Salale University, under the Ministry of Education, was established in 2015. The university has expanded different Colleges to fulfill the objective of the university. College of Natural Science established in 2016 as a three years course of natural Science education and started by Biology, Chemistry, physics and Mathematics. Up to March 14, 2021, Computer Science staffs are under department of mathematics. The growth in demand for Computer profession in the country created an opportunity to start a separate department for Computer Science.

The Department of Computer Science at Salale University was founded in March 15, 2021 with 7 lecturers, and three graduate assistances, and 5 technical Assistance. Following the establishment of the new department in 2021, nineteen regular students and 105 + weekend students in Kuyu and Fiche site were admitted to the department. It was followed by a more than a two-fold increase of regular student enrollment in 2022.

Computer Science department is one of the fast growing departments of the university with the objectives of providing research and Community services. Since its establishment in the year 2021, the department has had primary responsibility for teaching undergraduate Computer Science courses for the students in the department of Computer Science and other service courses within the College of Natural Science and other Colleges of Salale University. The department offers computer oriented practical courses using its fully equipped separate computer laboratory having as average 35 personal computers in two labs.

Computer Science is one of the eight disciplines within the College of Natural Science under Salale University. The department is striving to provide Motivating Environment for the free development and Exchange of ideas.

Now we have 19 staff and 100+ regular and 34 weekend totally 134+ students in our department. in addition, we have graduated a total of 123 students twice in the past, both regular and weekend, and our tracing study we confirmed that more than 78 % of them have employed both on government & non-government organization.

• To offer an outstanding, professionally oriented undergraduate Computing education
• To conduct applied research and consultancy service that will bring qualitative change in computerized industry and technical services in Ethiopia.

Research and Community Service

In this academic year Computer science proposed to deliver three researches and two community services. From this two researches approved by research and community directors. Therefore, computer Science instructors now a day to start his/her work properly.

Facility

Now a day computer Science department has two computer laboratories, one is assigned for 2nd year computer science lab and another one is 4th year computer science lab it is called CS lab1 and CS lab 2 found in Block 004 floor 4.
