Background

The Department of Chemistry is one of the academic program in the College of Natural Sciences and was established in August 2017 G.C, in response to demand of the community, growing need for scientific research and education in the discipline. The department is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the principles and applications of chemistry. The department emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills, preparing students for careers in research, industry, healthcare, education, and beyond. The department’s contributions have been significant both at the university level and nationally in all of these areas and beyond.

Graduate Profile of Chemistry Department

Graduates of the Chemistry Department should develop scientific concepts, critical thinking and problem solving ability, effective communication skills and ethical responsibility with the appreciation of chemical concepts. Graduates of the Chemistry Department will have acquired education at advanced level, including: Knowledge of chemistry, General intellectual and life skills and Values equip them for employment, citizenship and lay the foundations for a lifetime of continuous learning and personal development. Therefore, the chemistry graduates are preparing themselves for various career paths in academia, industry, and research.

Mission
  • To advance the understanding of chemical sciences through high-quality education, innovative research, and community engagement
  • To equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundations necessary to address the scientific challenges of today and contribute positively to society
  • To promote quality collaborative work with other stakeholders of Chemistry especially in all factories regarding the quality of production

Vision:
  • To see rational, productive and motivated chemistry graduates who explore and create knowledge to contribute to the national and global development and become leading department from comprehensive university by 2030.

Objectives
  • Produce well trained and skilled chemists capable of taking up well as various environmental conservation endeavors of the country
  • Conduct impactful research that pushes the boundaries of chemical knowledge and addresses pressing societal issues, including health, sustainability, and environmental protection
  • Disseminate knowledge in chemistry and related areas through active participation in related professional activities
  • Actively participate in the local and broader community service engagement through outreach programs, public lectures, and educational workshops to promote the understanding and relevance of chemistry in everyday life
  • Develop capabilities for the provision of consultancy and technical services as well as short term specialized training to both public and private sectors

The department has two BSc program. The BSc degree in the regular and BSc degree in summer offered by chemistry department.
