Background

The Department of English Language and Literature is one of the nine departments under the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Salale University. Established in 2018, the department has been committed to providing quality education and fostering academic excellence in the field of English language and literature. Since its inception, the department has offered both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with undergraduate students based at the main campus, General Tadesse Biru, while postgraduate students attend classes both at the main campus and the Sululta Branch. Currently, the department boasts a dedicated team of 26 academic staff members, including 8 PhD holders, 12 Master's degree holders, and 6 PhD candidates who are on study leave.

Mission

  • Delivering high-quality education supported by science and technology, enhancing the competencies of graduates with the required skills to compete in the global market. Engaging in research aimed at addressing global and societal challenges, as well as community service and technology transfer initiatives.

Objectives

  • Equip students with fundamental English language skills and knowledge essential for professional and occupational settings.
  • Provide students with a deep understanding of how human language functions.
  • Enable students to appreciate, analyze, and critique literary works effectively.
  • Foster research skills within the field of English language and literature.
  • Develop students' communication and public relations skills, as well as proficiency in media usage.
  • Train students to translate and interpret diverse discourses proficiently.
