Salale University President

Welcome to Salale University’s (SlU) Official Website,It is my great honor to serve as the President of Salale University, and I am deeply inspired to work alongside the dedicated and enthusiastic staff of our institution. I firmly believe that education is the most powerful tool to drive national progress and improve lives in all dimensions. It serves as the foundation for all forms of advancement, achievable only when access and equity are ensured.

With this vision, and guided by our motto, "Co-Creating Quality," Salale University was established in 2015 in Fiche town, North Showa Zone, Oromia Region, located 112 kilometers from Addis Ababa. Since its inception, SlU has been steadfastly committed to its three core missions: education, research, and community service. The University began its academic journey with nine undergraduate programs. Today, it offers more than thirty undergraduate programs, and we have finalized preparations to launch postgraduate programs in various fields by 2020. Our region, North Showa, widely known as "Salale" for historical reasons, is uniquely positioned, bordered by two major tributaries of the Nile River—Mogor and Jama—as well as the Nile itself. This area has attracted significant attention from researchers and academics due to its potential mineral resources.

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Salale University organized training on the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) software. Participants included staff from Salale University, Debre Birhan University,

Debre Markos University, Hawassa University, and the Fiche Research Centre. This marked the first training session offered by the college, which was open to all interested individuals in an online announcement and registration.
In her opening address, Shewadinber Mekonnen, Dean of the College, highlighted the significance of DSSAT training in equipping agricultural professionals with tools for data-driven decision-making, advanced research, and enhanced teaching and outreach. He noted that by simulating crop growth and management, the training supports sustainable agriculture, addresses climate change challenges, and prepares students for modern agricultural demands. Its impact extends beyond academics, benefiting local communities, farmers, and the broader agricultural sector.
The training, which focused on crop and climate modeling, was led by Dr. Girma Megersa and Dr. Dagne Kefeni from Salale University's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, along with Mr. Girma Asaffa, a lecturer and researcher from Haramaya University.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Tsegaye Deyou, Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs, emphasized the importance of such training in tackling global challenges like air pollution and environmental degradation. He stated that the knowledge gained helps professionals address climate-related issues, optimize germination conditions, and develop effective solutions. The training not only enhances participants' skills and motivation but also contributes to academic and research development. Dr. Tsegaye praised the collaboration among universities and underscored the value of continuing such programs. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for their contributions.
