Salale University President

Welcome to Salale University’s (SlU) Official Website,It is my great honor to serve as the President of Salale University, and I am deeply inspired to work alongside the dedicated and enthusiastic staff of our institution. I firmly believe that education is the most powerful tool to drive national progress and improve lives in all dimensions. It serves as the foundation for all forms of advancement, achievable only when access and equity are ensured.

With this vision, and guided by our motto, "Co-Creating Quality," Salale University was established in 2015 in Fiche town, North Showa Zone, Oromia Region, located 112 kilometers from Addis Ababa. Since its inception, SlU has been steadfastly committed to its three core missions: education, research, and community service. The University began its academic journey with nine undergraduate programs. Today, it offers more than thirty undergraduate programs, and we have finalized preparations to launch postgraduate programs in various fields by 2020. Our region, North Showa, widely known as "Salale" for historical reasons, is uniquely positioned, bordered by two major tributaries of the Nile River—Mogor and Jama—as well as the Nile itself. This area has attracted significant attention from researchers and academics due to its potential mineral resources.

Salale University Continues University-Wide Initiative on Outcome-Based Education with Training at the College of Engineering and Technology

Salale University College of Engineering and Technology, in collaboration with the Academic Program Directorate, recently hosted a two-day training on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and curriculum revision for its academic staff, continuing the university-wide initiative previously conducted across other colleges.

Mr. Getu Tadesse, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of the training as a key step toward shaping the future of teaching and learning at the University. He noted that such initiatives help build a strong foundation for continuous educational improvement.

Dr. Tsegaye Dayou, Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs, delivered the opening address, highlighting the fundamental shift that Outcome-Based Education introduces compared to the traditional curriculum. He explained that conventional systems often leave a gap between industry demands and the competencies students acquire.

He emphasized that OBE prioritizes students’ ability to demonstrate practical, measurable skills upon graduation rather than the volume of content delivered. He further stressed that achieving these goals requires the active engagement of all academic staff, whose collective commitment is vital to maintaining and enhancing educational quality.

During the training, participants took part in group discussions and interactive sessions aimed at deepening their understanding of OBE and strengthening their skills in applying OBE principles and curriculum-revision practices within their respective departments.

The program concluded with final reflections and closing remarks by Mr. Gezahegn Faye, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs. He thanked all participants for their active engagement; encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained in their teaching and curriculum development, and expressed confidence that the training would contribute to the continuous improvement of education at the University.
